Third anniversary limited alternative cover!
12 months ago – Sat, May 06, 2023 at 04:59:48 AM

Hi everyone!

April marked 3 years since the original publication of The Wretched. To mark the occasion I've produced a new print run with an alternative cover that I'm really fond of.

This cover is based on the cover of the original printing, which was only ever available in 25 physical copies. I still really like how that cover looked, but I was always frustrated that I lacked the ability to make it match my vision for it. This new cover updates it to get closer to my original intention, with the benefit of 3 years more experience under my belt.

This is being printed in a run of 100 copies, available from Loot The Room here. Each of them will be signed and numbered. I've also pledged that 50% of all my sales over this weekend will be donated to the Albert Kennedy Trust, a Manchester-based charity that provides support to LGBTQ+ youth facing homelessness or hostile environments. The desk that I wrote The Wretched at overlooked their offices in Manchester's Gay Village, and for various reasons they're a cause that's very important to me. You can find out more about them here.

Whether you decide to pick up the new edition or not, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you again for the support you showed me with this project. It continues to impact my life in new and unforseen ways, and I wouldn't be doing this job for a living now without you.

All my thanks,

Chris

2nd Anniversary of The Wretched!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 21, 2022 at 04:18:10 AM

Yesterday marked 2 years since the first release of The Wretched and it's fair to say that the game (and this Kickstarter a few months later) completely changed the direction of my life.

I wanted to do something to mark the occasion, so I've had some postcards printed that contain a handful of new prompts for the game as well as a link to some music I've recorded over the past month.

These are completely free, I'm just asking that people pay for the postage so that I don't bankrupt myself by giving them away! I've also had some Wretched & Alone journals printed, with space for you to write all your daily entries and record which cards you pulled:

There are only 100 of these at the moment but if there's demand for them I'll definitely be printing more.

You can find both of them here, and I'm also offering 20% off everything in my store until the end of April with the code WRETCHED2.

Thanks again for your support!

The Wretched is nominated for an award!
over 2 years ago – Tue, Sep 14, 2021 at 04:36:49 AM

Hi everyone!

I don't make a habit of updating Kickstarters so long after completion but this felt like it warranted it.

Tabletop Gaming Magazine just announced the nominees for their 2021 awards and The Wretched is nominated! I'm up for "Best Way To Die In An RPG" and I couldn't be happier.

Click The Shiny Picture To Vote

Being realistic, I won't win this - I'm up against the Alien and Labyrinth licensed games and I don't have anywhere near the support that Free League can muster. But I'd really love it if you vote for me anyway!

Thanks for your attention.

Game Over
about 3 years ago – Wed, Mar 24, 2021 at 02:18:34 PM

Hi everyone!

This is just a quick update to let you know that the last vinyl packages went out this weekend. It's taken longer than anticipated to get them all out the door - a combination of having to go back to work + trying to source more postage boxes set me back - and I want to thank those of you who haven't received anything yet for your patience.

As of writing this, everyone who has filled out their survey on BackerKit has had the items they ordered posted. A few things have been returned to me as undeliverable and I've reached out to those people indivudually (and in most cases - i.e. where I've had a response from you - I've sent out the items again).

If you haven't received vinyl yet, there's a strong chance that you were in the final batch to be posted. I hope you'll accept my apologies for the delay. If you still haven't had anything in a week or two, drop me an email at [email protected] and let me know.

If you aren't waiting for vinyl and haven't received anything - please drop me an email at the above address. I'm going to go through comments tonight and respond to any that I've missed, but email is always the most reliable way to get hold of me.

Thanks again for your support. This has been a long process and I know there have been a few delays along the way, but I hope you feel it's been worth the wait.

Best,

Chris

Vinyl has arrived!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 17, 2021 at 12:10:22 AM

While I was at work today, my partner took delivery of this stack of boxes:

A stack of cardboard boxes in my increasingly cramped office. Truly, this is an inspiring photo.

What you're looking at there are 245 copies of the Kickstarter exclusive soundtrack on 10" vinyl. I wasn't expecting them until next week, so this was a surprise!

SO GREEN

I'll admit I was nervous when I took this out of the sleeve, because I had no idea how it was going to look. I'm really, really happy with how they turned out.

Now I'm just waiting for my vinyl postage boxes to arrive (which should be tomorrow or Thursday) and then I can start sending these out to backers. Once that's happened I'll be putting the leftover stock up in my store, so if you didn't get vinyl during the campaign but now want it you'll be able to grab a copy.

If you haven't filled out your survey you still have a week to do it. At that point I'll be refunding pledges for surveys that haven't been completed.

Now that the vinyl has arrived there's nothing really left for me to talk about on this project, so this is probably the final update I'll write here. I'm incredibly grateful for the support you've all shown me, and for your patience with the delay on the vinyl arriving. I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to produce this record and to get this game in the hands of so many people.

If you want to keep up with what I'm doing come and say hi on Twitter or check out my Instagram, or sign up for my mailing list. Right now I'm running another Kickstarter as part of ZineQuest and I'm also getting ready to release this month's Patreon game, so I've always got something going on!

Thanks again.
