More music!
over 3 years ago – Sun, Sep 13, 2020 at 04:41:47 AM

It's the weekend and I'm meant to be taking a break but I can't help myself and wanted to share some more music with you.

I was playing around with a Shepard tone and ended up making something very moody and anxiety-inducing. The plan is to layer this with some sort of garbled SOS message. I've also brought in some of the piano from the original soundtrack as a motif, and I intend to let this track drop straight into a more beat-driven track in the style of Nine Inch Nails. We'll see how that goes.

Let me know what you think!

Soundtrack Preview!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Sep 12, 2020 at 02:57:20 AM

This morning I've started working on the new soundtrack for the game! With both the music stretch goals hit I need to write about an hour's worth of new music. The soundtrack available to everyone will come in at around 40 minutes, while the Kickstarter exclusive soundtrack will be somewhere between 20-25 minutes (dictated by the fact that I'm pressing it on 10" vinyl).

Here's a little preview of what I'm working on today. This is all subject to change, obviously.

You'll recognise bits of this if you watched the Kickstarter video, since I took the music I wrote for that as a starting point.

My goal with the new music is to land somewhere between the ambient background sounds of the original soundtrack and an active, memorable cinematic score. You'll notice more upfront percussion in this and a little more focus on chord progressions and emphasising the musicality of the piece.

All in all I'm happy with where this is heading and I'm excited to be working on it, and I really hope you like it!

Vinyl upgrades!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 10, 2020 at 01:11:37 AM

Good morning!

It's been a day or two since I touched base with you and I wanted to give you a little update on where we're at. As of this morning the campaign is over £8000 in funding and I'm stunned.

I'm still exploring options for additional stretch goals while keeping things simple to ensure I deliver on time. One thing that I'm looking into are upgrades for the things I'm already producing that won't cost you anything extra.

I've asked Mixam for a quote for foil stamping on the cover of the zines and am still waiting for a response from them. Since I'm printing a lot more zines than I expected I'm also exploring offset printing options to increase the quality even more, but I don't have anything to report on that front yet!

One upgrade that's DEFINITELY happening is to the vinyl. The original plan was to keep it simple, with a black disc and a basic outer sleeve. I'm now upgrading to a better quality sleeve with a 5mm spine, and we'll be getting a coloured disc (I'm hoping for green but I'm waiting on a response from DMS).

This weekend I'm going to start on the new music and will post a preview for you. I also feel like doing some kind of Q&A update, so if you have any questions send them my way!

Thanks, as always, for your support.

Vinyl! + Shut Up & Sit Down
over 3 years ago – Tue, Sep 08, 2020 at 03:14:42 AM

We're a week into the campsign and I'm delighted to say that the final stretch goal has just been met. We're getting EVEN MORE MUSIC and I get to realise a life-long dream of pressing my own vinyl. I'm ridiculously happy right now.

Digital mock-up of the vinyl. Final appearance subject to change.

I've set up new reward tiers for the Zine + Vinyl, and also a bundle that contains the zine, vinyl, and a t-shirt. If you want them, go grab them!

Early Birds

As with the t-shirt, I didn't account for how this would affect people at the Early Bird tier. If you want the stretch goals but want to keep your discount, it's the same deal as the t-shirt:

  • Add £23 to your pledge for a t-shirt
  • Add £20 to your pledge for vinyl
  • Drop me a message to let me know

I know this is a pain and I'm very sorry about it. This has been a learning experience for me, and I promise it's going to be more annoying for me in the long run than it is for you (if that's any consolation!)

SU&SD

I woke up this morning to find that Shut Up And Sit Down - one of my favourite gaming sites/video channels - had mentioned The Wretched in their blog. This made me very happy and I wanted to share it with you, so that's what I'm doing.

What's Next?

I started this campaign expecting not to hit any of these stretch goals. We still have two weeks to go with nothing new to aim for. I'm going to have a think about if there's anything else I can offer that won't add unnecessary bloat and complications to the campaign. I don't want to add stretch goals for the sake of stretch goals, because that's how I get myself in trouble!

In the mean time I'm going to start working on the music for the new soundtrack. You can expect some updates with previews of that over the next week, as well as details of how I'm progressing with the audiobook version of the game.

Thanks so much for your support so far.
